40 Best Road Trip Movies of All Time

There have been several of them over the years, all with various storylines and undertones. The list below represents a very wide selection of films from the early days of Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert in the 1934 classic “It Happened One Night”, a road show classic of Bing Crosby and Bob Hope in 1947’s Road To Rio, Stanley Kramer’s madcap, all-star cast, cross-country adventure of “It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” from 1962, as well as the legendary Easy Rider of 1969 through the 70’s cult favorite Death Race 2000 starring David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone. Along the way, both women rediscover the strength of their friendship and surprising aspects of their personalities and self-strengths in the trying times.

His dad also introduces Tommy to the new brake pad division of the factory and to Tommy’s soon-to-be stepmother, Beverly, and her son Paul. But when Big Tom dies, the factory threatens to go under unless the new brake pads are to be sold. Therefore, Tommy must go on the road to sell them, along with the assistance of Richard, Big Tom’s right-hand man. Will Tommy save the company, or will the factory, and the town, go under?

At a gas station, The Driver and The Mechanic, along with a girl who has ingratiated herself into their world, meet G.T.O., a middle-aged man who fabricates stories about his exploits. It is decided to have a race to Washington, D.C., where the winner will get the loser’s car. Along the way, the race and the highway metaphorically depict the lives of these contestants as they struggle to their destination.

Kowalski, works for a car delivery service. He takes delivery of a 1970 Dodge Challenger to take from Colorado to San Fransisco, California. Along the way, Kowalski is guided by Supersoul – a blind DJ with a police radio scanner. Throw in lots of chase scenes, gay hitchhikers, a naked woman riding a motorbike, lots of Mopar and you’ve got a great cult hit from the early 70’s

The Long, Long Trailer (1953)

starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Keenan Wynn, Marjorie Main

Nicky (Desi Arnaz) and his fiance, Tacy (Lucille Ball) are engaged. Nicky wants to save up money for a house, but Tacy dreams of starting off with their own home on wheels — a trailer. After the two get married, the newlyweds hitch up their trailer and begin their honeymoon across the USA. The humor comes from several disastrous adventures the couple have while traveling including Tacy’s awkward attempt to cook dinner in a moving trailer, and a cliffhanging ride through the Sierra Nevada Mountains that nearly destroys their marriage. A very enjoyable and hilarious look at Lucy and Desi in the earlier years of their TV prime on the big screen. A must see for all Lucy fans.
