Songs For Leap Day

Well… it’s that time again… that strange extra day we’re given on the calendar every four years. LEAP DAY happens like clockwork every four years. The month of February gains an extra day at the end of the month, February 29th to be specific, though still remains the shortest month of the year. Those lucky ones (or unlucky ones depending on your outlook) who were born on this date, also known as “leaplings”, theoretically have found the “Fountain of Youth” , so to speak, by aging just a ‘notch’ with a birthday (as far as the calendar shows) once every four years. Some choose to celebrate it on February 28th or March 1st during those ‘in-between’ years.

Another interesting tradition about Leap Year and/or Leap Day, is that women are obliged , according to old Irish or Scottish folklore, to propose to their fiance on February 29th giving a spike in engagements as well as weddings on this date every four years. This particular day is also known and celebrated as “Sadie Hawkins’ Day”, when women may propose to men. Many high schools stage Sadie Hawkins Day School Rallies and Evening Dances on this date where the girl asks the guy to go to the dance.

As far as music goes, there are countless songs themed towards many other holidays and special days such as Valentine’s Day, Halloween and Christmas, but nothing really comes to mind on Leap Day or during Leap Year. So after some time doing a lot of searching for songs with a LEAP DAY theme, I decided to put together a slightly unusual list of songs with the word ‘leap’ or ‘jump’ in the title as well as a couple of other miscellaneous songs that mention ’29’ or ‘strange day’ in the title. I hope you enjoy the weird compilation mix here and I’ve included audio/videos of some so you can sample them. As in all of my other theme lists, you’ll find a wide genre mix here to hopefully satisfy your taste in music.

Love Songs For Valentine’s Day & More

Valentine’s Day songsand romance have gone together since the beginning of time. Just about everyone falls in love at sometime in their life, or at least reminisces about their past loves and crushes. Some of the greatest love songs of all time have been with us since our youth, or as long as we can remember back. Throughout history, people of all ages have expressed their emotions through love songs and/or love poems. Our favorites tend to be those that we can remember the lyrics and melody (tune) to, as well as remembering where we were at or whom we were with at the time.

For some of us, it can be quite difficult to express our love towards someone special, but with a traditional gift such as a bouquet of roses/flowers, maybe a box of gourmet chocolate, a bottle of special wine, or even your own unique or custom-made gift,  in addition to the right setting, it can make it a whole lot easier. The right song(s) can make it much simpler for you to express your thoughts and help put your genuine feelings into musical poetry. This year, tell someone how much you love them by putting together a special love song compilation to help set that perfect mood.

The following list is divided into two sections. The first section contains the few songs out there with ‘Valentine’ in the title (whether or not they actually deal with Valentine’s Day specifically). The second section contain a wide variety of love songs in general from several genres of music as well as a wide music time span, that just might fit that special Valentine’s Day message you want to convey or that perfect mood you’re trying to set.

101 Break Up Songs To Stew Over

Are you currently going through or have you just had a bad breakup? Seems like we’ve all been there at one time or another. You can go through a whole series of feelings and emotions that range from tears to anger, heartache, despair, confusion, isolation, insanity, wanting revenge, etc. None of these of course are healthy but most are normal.  Sometimes music can be great therapy as well as being around family and friends even though you might wanna be alone for awhile. Here’s a random collection of breakup songs that you might be able to use as therapy to help you mend… or at least alter your thinking process.

What’s the best therapy for a nasty breakup?

A date with Jack Daniels? ………. No, that’s probably a bad idea.

A date with Ben and Jerry? ………. A slightly better idea, but still a bit on the self-destructive side.

Instead — How ’bout drowning your sorrows with that time-tested, alcohol-free as well as calorie free remedy — the breakup song.

Why don’t you make yourself a CD mix or an iPod playlist of the songs that express your feelings at the moment and blare the heck out of it in your car or on the treadmill.

Need inspiration or a new playlist that helps you deal with your breakup?

Whether its pop, punk, metal, classic, country, the 80’s or contemporary break up songs, you might find what you’re looking for here…..
