Songs About Animals & Pets

All for the love of animals, pets and critters of all types…

animal_collageHere you will find a comprehensive list of songs (over 300) about animals as well as all types of living creatures, which includes birds, reptiles and insects. Even a few prehistoric creatures made the list (“Walk The Dinosaur”). And, for good measure, I’ve even included a handful of mythological creatures such as dragons (“Puff The Magic Dragon”) and unicorns (“The Unicorn Song”). This list should help you compile an mp3 playlist or list of songs to burn to cd for your next trip. Probably 95% or more mention the animal within the title. Included here also are a few songs about pets as lifelong companions that mention the pet’s name in the 2horsestitle (examples include “Me & You & A Dog Names Boo”, “Wildfire”, “Shannon”, “Ol’ Red”, “Old Shep”, “Old Rivers” and “Feed Jake”). Several novelty songs (many which have become ‘cult’ favorites from the Dr. Demento radio show) are included here also about animals (examples here include “The Chipmunk Song”, “Hamster Dance Song”, “Fish Heads”, “Dead Puppies”, “Squirrels”, “Dead Skunk”, “Disco Duck”, “Mr. Jaws”, “Moose Turd Pie”, “Cows With Guns”, “Second Week of Deer Camp”)cats_&_dogs_collageInstrumental classics here also abound (including “Alley Cat”, “Pink Panther Theme”, ” The Lonely Bull”, “Baby Elephant Walk”, “Yellow Bird”) Animal related songs from movies include Dr. Dolittle, Charlotte’s Web, The Aristocats, Hans Christian Anderson, Lady & The Tramp, and Winnie The Pooh. Quite a few Christmas songs are here also (“Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer”, “Dominic The Italian Christmas Donkey”, “Grandma Got Run over By A Reindeer”, “I Want A hippopotamus For Christmas”). And finally, at the end of this list are a few “bonus” songs about animals in general (mentioned within the title, such as animal, beast or zoo).

All types of music are encompassed here big band, classical, showtunes, pop standards, folk, ballads, classic rock, country, old school, punk, soul, r&b, reggae, jazz, disco, techno, alternative, heavy metal, modern rock, bubble gum, comedy, novelty, etc. Enjoy :)

Oh…by the way, “Mustang Sally” is NOT about animals/horses, it’s about a woman and a CAR…specifically, a Ford Mustang. “I bought you a brand new Mustang…a 1965…Now you come around Signifyin’, now woman You don’t wanna let me ride…” I guess you better slow that Mustang down my friend!

    • Thanks for your input as it’s much appreciated and encouraged BUT you repeated a few I already had on this list already… check again and you’ll find “A Horse with No Name”, “Surfin’ Bird” and “The Doggie In The Window”….. and I’m quite aware of the “Mustang Sally” references… just that certain key words like Mustang trigger an automatic animal reference in my song list……. but thanks just the same on the others and that’s why I included your comment post above :)
